The Irish ruling class, its subservient media and academia, along with a well-funded global network of “think tanks” connected to the military-industrial complex, continue to subvert neutrality and push ahead for the removal of the Triple Lock.
The grovelling antics of the Irish political class were best reflected in the form of an Taoiseach’s well-choreographed display in the White House—the Washington franchise of Disney World—on 17 March.
It was just another display of the political bankruptcy of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael and the political eunuchs that are the independent TDs who prop up this government and acquiesce in the ongoing attacks on neutrality and any semblance of an independent foreign policy.
For nearly three years, hundreds of thousands of our people have marched and protested in every village, town and city from Belfast to Cork, demanding action from this government regarding the genocide in Gaza. All our people have received are a few patronising words, the wringing of hands, and a bucketload of excuses as to why we can’t do anything without our EU partners.
While at the same time they continue to allow Shannon Airport to be used by the US war machine; they still allow military and civilian overflights that are carrying weapons to supply this war machine, to keep going, obliterating tens of thousands of people in West Asia—from Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Iran. The collaboration of the Irish state with the western military alliance has deepened.
In February 2026, the Irish Army Ranger Wing, one of the most secretive military units, was training with US special forces just a few days before the US began its illegal war on Iran. Within the first few hours of this illegal war, the US bombed a girls’ school twice within an hour, killing over 160 young schoolchildren, plus some of those attempting to rescue them when the second attack took place.
The Army Ranger Wing completed a three-week urban warfare course with the US Army Special Forces, known as the Green Berets, in North Carolina in February 2026. The Green Berets are one of the most notorious gangs of thugs in the US war machine and have been involved in many massacres going as far back as Vietnam. The US Department of War published images and video footage of armed Irish Rangers training at Fort Bragg. The Green Berets are now deployed in this illegal war of aggression against Iran which began on 28 February.
Neither An Taoiseach Micheál Martin nor the Tánaiste Simon Harris could call the war launched against Iran illegal under international law and against the UN Charter. Instead they condemned Iran for defending itself by the only means at its disposal—to attack US military installations across West Asia, particularly within the Gulf states. Under international law and the UN, states are entitled to defend themselves, and that includes attacking military forces being used to attack another nation from a third country. They could not condemn the illegal blockade of Cuba and the recent tightening of that blockade by the US preventing all oil deliveries to Cuba.
A further indication of how far the ruling class has moved away from any semblance of independent political action came in late March when they abstained on a vote in the UN on a motion submitted by a number of African countries condemning the Atlantic slave trade and the enslavement on racial grounds as the “gravest crime against humanity”.
Three countries voted against the motion: the US, Argentina, and the Zionist entity, while 52 abstained, including Ireland. We couldn’t break ranks with the nations responsible for such an abomination as the Atlantic slave trade because they are all our EU “partners”.
The Irish establishment has no interest in a sovereign, independent foreign policy because their material interests are now fully integrated into those of western imperialist economic, political and military interests. This is why if they come forward with an Occupied Territories Bill it will be meaningless, as we are one of the largest traders with the Zionist state. There is money to be made in killing Palestinians, Iranians, Lebanese and Syrians—even large profits to be made in participation in the war industry. That is why it is a central and critical fight to defeat them regarding the removal of the Triple Lock.
