The Pacification of the Palestinian Struggle

Let us be clear: there is no ceasefire in Gaza or Palestine. The reality is that despite a genocidal campaign, the Zionist military and its imperialist backers have failed to militarily defeat the guerrilla resistance or break the will of the Palestinian people.

Up to 200,000 tons of largely American explosives—the equivalent of three nuclear bombs—were dropped on Gaza. An estimated 150,000 to 200,000 people have been killed. Yet, the combined forces of the US, EU, and Britain, in full support of the Zionists, could not achieve a military victory.

Instead, the steadfast resistance of the Palestinians has held the world’s attention on over seventy years of attempts to annihilate their nation. It has exposed the so-called “rules-based international order” for what it is: a mask for capitalism and imperialism. The bourgeois notions of free speech and the right to ‘peaceful protest’ have been revealed as a farce. The banning of Palestine Action in the UK and its branding as a “terrorist organisation” marks a nadir of autocracy. Any liberal illusions about “bourgeois rights” in the Western so-called democracies have been utterly shattered.

The Al Aqsa Flood operation ended the pretence of normalisation between the Zionist entity, the Palestinians, and their Arab neighbours. Since the Abraham Accords, a carefully manufactured illusion of peace has attempted to disguise the never-ending attacks on Palestinians. This façade served only to obscure the greed of capitalism and the designs of Western imperialism on controlling the Middle East and its resources for the benefit of a wealthy elite.

The current Trumpian “peace process” has nothing to do with peace. It is a pacification process, born from the stark realisation that Western imperialism, via its Zionist proxy, could not wipe out Palestine by military means alone. This is not the end of their attempts at subjugation—not by a long shot. It is merely a tactical shift.

What can we learn from this? Millions have flooded the streets across the world in protest. Every conceivable form of solidarity action has been taken. The humanity and emotional energy have seemed endless. But we must understand that the highly charged emotional force driving these protests will inevitably subside as the live-feeds of genocide slow—and that is precisely what pacification is designed to achieve. It is a tactical illusion to demobilise global outrage.

Their sham ceasefire and “peace” are stepping stones to maintaining their power. The inhuman system of capitalism and imperialism knows when to change tactics. We must recognise this and change ours.

The crucial question is this: Will those who were motivated to scream “STOP THE GENOCIDE” on the streets now join the dots and begin shouting: “STOP IMPERIALISM AND CAPITALISM”? Will they demand a new dispensation? Will they shout loudly for Socialism and real peace? Will they call for a new, people-powered democratic world order?

And more importantly, have we, as progressive forces, Socialist Republicans, and Communists, done enough to ensure that these dots are connected for the majority of our population? Have we provided the revolutionary analysis and organisation to channel this righteous anger into a lasting movement for systemic change?

That remains the unanswered question. The battle now is not just for Palestine’s survival, but for the political consciousness of a global generation. We must ensure that the cry for Gaza becomes the death knell for the entire imperialist system.
